How to Meet Your Rental Insurance Requirement
Before your rental begins, you must have approved insurance coverage in place.
All rentals require Liability and Collision protection. You can meet this requirement through Greenvans coverage, your personal auto insurance, a combination of personal insurance and Greenvans Collision Damage Waiver, or a Certificate of Insurance from your business or organization. Most renters choose Greenvans coverage during booking.
Each option is explained below.
We review required documentation before your rental so everything is ready ahead of time.
Option One: Purchase Coverage Through Greenvans
Purchasing coverage through Greenvans is the simplest way to protect your rental. All approved drivers are covered under one policy, and you can choose the level of protection that fits your trip.
You may select one of our coverage packages or choose individual protection options during booking. Coverage is available at all Greenvans locations, and pricing may vary by branch.
What You’ll Need
- A photo or scan of a valid driver’s license for each driver
Driver’s licenses must be submitted before your rental begins.
Option Two: Use Your Personal Auto Insurance
If each driver carries a personal auto insurance policy that includes Liability and Collision coverage, that policy may be used as long as it meets our rental requirements.
We recommend contacting your insurance provider before your trip to confirm that your policy extends to 15 passenger vans. Coverage varies by provider, and not all personal policies apply to larger vehicles.
Each driver must provide their own insurance policy. One policy does not automatically cover drivers who are not listed on it.
What You’ll Need
- A photo or scan of a valid driver’s license for each driver
- A photo or scan of insurance documentation for each driver showing name, policy number, and expiration date
Documentation must be submitted before your rental begins.
Option Three: Use Personal Insurance with Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
If your personal auto policy includes Liability coverage, you may use that coverage and add Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) for Collision protection on your rental.
CDW is commonly selected if your personal policy does not extend Collision coverage to a 15 passenger van, or if you prefer to use CDW to limit your financial responsibility in the event of damage.
If you’re unsure what your policy covers, contact your insurance provider before your trip to confirm.
What You’ll Need
- A photo or scan of a valid driver’s license for each driver
- A photo or scan of insurance documentation for each driver showing name, policy number, and expiration date
Documentation must be submitted before your rental begins.
Option Four: Provide a Certificate of Insurance (COI)
If you are renting on behalf of a business, church, production company, or other organization, you may provide a Certificate of Insurance (COI) that meets the requirements below.
What Your COI Must Include
- Greenvans, LLC listed as Loss Payee and Additional Insured
- Address: 1221 E 4th St, Eddystone, PA 19022
- Auto Liability coverage of at least $1,000,000
- Physical Damage coverage of at least $65,000
- Maximum deductible of $500
Certificates must be submitted before your rental begins. Incomplete certificates may delay vehicle release.
Choose Your Coverage Package
Greenvans offers coverage packages that meet rental requirements. Both include the minimum protections required to operate a vehicle. The difference comes down to how much additional protection you want.
Individual coverage options are also available below. Pricing may vary by branch.

Select Individual Protection Options
In addition to our coverage packages, you can choose protection options individually during booking.
All rentals must include, at minimum
- Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
- Renter’s Liability Protection (RLP)
You may select additional protection options on their own or use them to supplement your personal auto insurance.
If you’re using your personal auto insurance for liability coverage, you can purchase Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) through Greenvans to meet the collision requirement.
Pricing for individual protection options may vary by branch.
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) reduces your financial responsibility if the rental vehicle is damaged in a collision.
CDW is optional if your personal auto policy includes collision coverage. CDW is required if you are not using personal collision coverage.
Coverage includes
- Limits your responsibility to a $1,000 deductible per incident
Does not cover
Roof damage
Unauthorized vehicle use
Damage not caused by a collision (including vandalism or weather)
Liability for damage to other vehicles or property
CDW is not insurance and may duplicate coverage you already have. Required liability coverage must still be in place.
If CDW is not selected, you are responsible for the full cost of damage or must file a claim through your personal insurer.
Renter’s Liability Protection (RLP)
Renter’s Liability Protection (RLP) provides primary liability coverage if you do not have your own personal auto insurance policy.
Coverage includes
- Meets state minimum liability requirements
- Includes a $2,500 deductible
Supplemental Liability Protection (SLP)
Supplemental Liability Protection (SLP) increases your liability coverage beyond state minimum limits if you are at fault in an accident involving injury or property damage to others.
Coverage includes
- Up to $300,000 in additional liability protection
This option is commonly selected by renters who want higher liability limits beyond the minimum required.
Personal Effects & Personal Accident Insurance (PEI/PAI)
Personal Effects & Personal Accident Insurance (PEI/PAI) provides accidental death and medical expense coverage during the rental period.
Coverage includes
- Accidental death benefit for the renter (up to $100,000)
- Accidental death benefit for passengers (up to $10,000)
- Medical and ambulance expenses (up to $1,000)
Coverage applies only to authorized drivers and extends to the authorized driver’s immediate family.
Understanding Damage and Repair Costs
Vehicle repairs can become expensive quickly. Costs may vary depending on the type of damage, labor rates, parts availability, and location. Even minor damage can result in significant repair expenses.
Roof damage is not covered under Collision Damage Waiver (CDW). Because Greenvans vehicles are taller than standard passenger vehicles, renters are responsible for confirming proper clearance in parking garages, drive-throughs, and other height-restricted areas.
If a vehicle is damaged and taken out of service, renters who are determined to be at fault may also be responsible for loss of use charges during the repair period.
Do I need my own insurance?
Not necessarily. You can choose Greenvans coverage, use your personal auto policy, combine your insurance with Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) or other protection options, or provide a Certificate of Insurance (COI) from your organization.
