WINTER FESTIVAL OR BUST!

ice sculptures at a winter festival

Autumn’s just about gone and the snow is most definitely on its way—and with it, cabin fever. The best cure? A 15-passenger van rental to get you and your friends or family out of the house and onto the road.

Whether you’re looking for a short jaunt or a long haul, there’s plenty out there worthy of exploration and celebration. After all, the darkest days of the year come with some of the coolest festivals—and now’s the time to find the one that’s right for you and start planning.

So if you’re ready to make some memories—and ready to have fun doing it—here are some road-trip-worthy destinations to consider.

ICEFEST
Chambersburg, PA

From its giant ice throne to its Run Your Ice Off 5K to its beer gardens and corn hole tournaments, no one does snowy fun quite like Chambersburg.

January 2022 marks the town’s 20th anniversary of IceFest, complete with over 30 tons of ice, 10,000 out-of-towners (making it the largest annual winter festival gathering in the state), and plenty for everyone to enjoy.

Take in over 70 ice sculptures. Ride a 40-foot ice slide. Dance your heart out at the Snowfall Ball.

It’s all part of the adventure.

Polar bear plunge in Annapolis, Maryland

POLAR BEAR PLUNGE
Annapolis, MD

If ice sculptures and beer gardens just aren’t hardcore enough for you, there’s always throwing yourself into the icy waters of Chesapeake Bay.

This 25-year tradition brings in thousands of “plungers” from all over Maryland—including elite “super plungers” who raise money for the privilege of dunking themselves 24 times in 24 hours.

The best part?

Every pledge—including yours—goes to support the Special Olympics Maryland. This year, the goal is set at $3.5 million.

It’s a chance to be part of something big and meaningful.

Plus, it’s not an experience you’ll forget anytime soon.

SARANAC LAKE WINTER CARNIVAL
Saranac Lake, NY

Looking for something with a bit more history?

Try the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival, first held in 1897.

Today, the 10-day annual event offers everything from ski racing and snowshoeing to ice castles and pancake breakfasts. It’s a community-driven festival put on by volunteers and sponsors—but with two parades and three sets of fireworks, it all feels larger than life.

Somewhere out there is the winter festival that’s right for you. Whether you’re in the mood for a family vacation or an adult-only road trip, there are plenty of reasons to pack up scarves and mittens and head out on the highway.

Rent a 15-passenger van to make every mile of the journey something to remember.
