Greenvans is the first independent van-rental company to offer a fleet of alternative fuel vehicles. Bio-Diesel and Waste Vegetable Oil (WVO) fuel our energy efficient, clean burning vans specifically designed to meet the long distance travel and cargo requirements of touring bands.
Greenvans supports musicians who are as passionate about preserving the environment as they are about bringing their music to fans. It is our primary goal to provide touring musicians with a carbon-neutral, sustainable means of transportation at an affordable cost.
Founders Andy Reitz and Anthony Rovedo formed Greenvans in the spring of 2008 in response to the need for green travel in the music industry. As touring musicians themselves, Andy and Anthony know how hard it is to find affordable and eco-friendly tour transportation around the US. After months of research into the technology behind WVO fuel systems, Andy bought and converted a diesel van in 2007 for his own band, Defeater, and successfully completed a two-month US tour burning recycled vegetable oil for fuel. In his travels, Andy discovered there was a community around the country willing to help others traveling on WVO. He collaborated with the WVO community to form a nationwide network of fuel suppliers who collect, filter, and sell WVO to bands touring with Greenvans.
Each of our diesel passenger vans is modified with an automated secondary fuel system that allows you to use filtered Waste Vegetable Oil (WVO) as fuel. The WVO system is comprised of a heated fuel pump, fuel filter, and 30-gallon heated aluminum tank mounted underneath the van. The system is designed and manufactured by DinoFuelAlternatives (DFA) and installed by our crew at Greenvans. It is the best and most reliable alternative fuel system on the market today.
All of our veggie vans also come with a trailer. Inside each trailer is plenty of room for all your gear and merch, as well as a 150-gallon reserve fuel tank that holds enough veggie oil for 2,000 miles of travel. Attached to the tank is a small electric pump and nozzle that you use to fill the 30-gallon WVO tank mounted underneath the van. The process is as simple as filling up at a regular gas station, except with Greenvans you are carrying your gas station with you.
Once you have used all the fuel in the reserve tank, you must replenish your supply with one of our filtered WVO suppliers around the country. We have a network of nearly 50 suppliers who collect WVO from local restaurants and process it into high quality fuel. Once we have your tour routing, we coordinate refuels with the suppliers that are most conveniently located along your route. All you have to do is pull up to their shop and they will sell you enough oil to refuel both the reserve tank and van tank and get you on your way as quickly as possible.
The price for filtered WVO fluctuates with the price of diesel fuel, but generally goes for about $1.00 per gallon less than the price of diesel fuel at the pump. Our vans are much more fuel efficient than gas vans and can get up to 20mpg towing a loaded trailer. The low cost of fuel and high efficiency of our vehicles amount to significant fuel savings over the course of your tour.
